Little Lamb Busy Book – Play Guide

This guide brings together play ideas for every page in the Little Lamb Busy Book, helping parents and caregivers get the most learning, joy and longevity from each activity. Each page is designed to grow with your child — from singing and sensory exploration to early literacy, numeracy and self-help skills.


🥚 Humpty Dumpty

Core Play: Sing the rhyme while rebuilding the velcro puzzle.

More Ways to Play:

  • Remove and mix up puzzle pieces

  • Identify where each piece belongs

  • Talk about shapes, colours and body parts

  • Create a new ending to the story

  • Encourage persistence and trying again

Skills Developed: Problem-solving, spatial awareness, fine motor skills, resilience


🐸 Five Little Speckled Frogs

Core Play: Sing and count down using frog finger puppets.

More Ways to Play:

  • Count forwards and backwards from five

  • Talk about how many frogs are left

  • Create new frog adventures

  • Practise finger strength and coordination

  • Independent counting play

Skills Developed: Early numeracy, sequencing, fine motor skills, imagination


🕷️ Incy Wincy Spider

Core Play: Sing while moving the spider up and down the string.

More Ways to Play:

  • Zip and unzip the cloud to release rain

  • Flip the cloud to reveal the sun

  • Talk about feelings and resilience

  • Retell the rhyme in your child’s own words

  • Practise zipper skills for independence

🚜 Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Core Play: Sing the rhyme using animal finger puppets.

More Ways to Play:

  • Match animals to their sounds

  • Sort animals by size or type

  • Slide the ducks and count them

  • Create farm stories beyond the song

  • Practise finger isolation with puppets

Skills Developed: Language, storytelling, classification, fine motor skills


🐶 BINGO

Core Play: Sing and remove a letter each time.

More Ways to Play:

  • Rebuild the name BINGO in order

  • Say each letter name aloud

  • Practise buckling and unbuckling the dog’s strap

  • Hide a letter and guess which one is missing

  • Pretend play with BINGO and his kennel

🌧️ Rain Rain Go Away / It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

Core Play: Sing while changing the weather in the window.

More Ways to Play:

  • Flip the double-sided felt piece to change rain and sun

  • Slide the felt in and out of the window for fine motor practice

  • Tie and untie the curtain bows

  • Talk about weather, clothing and feelings

  • Pretend to watch the weather from inside the house

🕰️ Hickory Dickory Dock

Core Play: Sing the rhyme while moving the clock hands.

More Ways to Play:

  • Identify numbers on the clock

  • Talk about morning, afternoon and night

  • Turn the hands to different positions

  • Retell the rhyme in sequence

  • Connect time to daily routines

🫖 I’m a Little Teapot

Core Play: Sing and act out the rhyme using the teapot.

More Ways to Play:

  • Practise snapping and unsnapping the button

  • Pretend to pour tea for family or toys

  • Talk about new words like spout, handle and hot

  • Repeat the rhyme to build confidence and memory

🐑 Baa Baa Black Sheep

Core Play: Guide the button through the maze into the three bags.

🐟 One Two Three Four Five, Once I Caught a Fish Alive

Core Play: Sing the rhyme while threading the fish.

More Ways to Play:

  • Thread matching colour pairs

  • Sort fish by colour before threading

  • Count the fish as you sing

  • Place fish into the bucket pocket to act out the rhyme

  • Use the bucket for pretend fishing games

🚣 Row Row Row Your Boat

Core Play: Sing the rhyme while rocking the boat.

More Ways to Play:

  • Place the children in the boat pocket and create stories

  • Use the crocodile finger puppet to act out surprise moments

  • Practise finger isolation using the puppet

  • Talk about beginning, middle and end of the story

  • Encourage children to invent their own boat adventures

🎶 Alphabet Song Page

Core Play: Sing the alphabet song while pointing to each letter.

More Ways to Play:

  • Remove all velcro letters and rebuild the alphabet in order

  • Find specific letters (e.g. first letter of your child’s name)

  • Talk about uppercase letters and where we see them

  • Say letter sounds for gentle phonics exposure

  • Mix up a few letters and put them back correctly

  • Independent play for focus and confidence
